What Does a Kubernetes Architect Actually Do?
Hire Kubernetes Architect: A Kubernetes architect designs the overall container orchestration strategy for an organization: cluster topology and multi-cluster strategy, networking and service mesh architecture, security and access control design, scaling and resource governance, and the CI/CD and GitOps workflows that deploy applications onto the cluster. This differs from a Kubernetes application developer (often holding the Certified Kubernetes Application Developer, or CKAD, credential), who focuses on building, packaging, and deploying applications correctly onto Kubernetes, and from a Kubernetes setup engineer, who handles the initial cluster bootstrap, provisioning, and configuration work that gets an environment production-ready. At Cybertize, we place all three roles, either individually or as a coordinated team, depending on whether you need strategic architecture, hands-on application deployment work, or initial infrastructure setup.
Hiring Models:
Dedicated Hire (Staff Augmentation)
One or more Kubernetes specialists, architect, developer, or setup engineer, embedded with your team on an ongoing basis, working under your direction and process as a genuine extension of your engineering organization.
Fixed-Scope Cluster Build or Migration
A defined engagement, cluster setup, a Kubernetes migration, or a security hardening project, delivered on a fixed timeline and cost by a scoped team, the right fit when the work has a clear beginning and end.
Managed Kubernetes Support Retainer
Ongoing cluster operations, monitoring, and incident response without hiring a full-time in-house platform team, functioning similarly to our broader managed DevOps offering but scoped specifically to Kubernetes operations.
Kubernetes Advisory & Audit
A time-boxed architecture review of an existing cluster, covering security posture, cost efficiency, and scaling readiness, with a prioritized findings report, useful before a major scaling initiative or when inherited infrastructure needs an honest assessment.
What It Costs to Hire Kubernetes Talent
Rates vary significantly by role seniority and region. In India, Kubernetes developers and setup engineers typically run USD 20 to 50 per hour, while senior Kubernetes architects and leads run USD 70 to 115 per hour. In the US, equivalent architect-level talent runs USD 160 to 260 per hour, and specialized independent consultants can run higher still. Hiring an experienced Kubernetes architect through an Indian team typically delivers roughly 55 to 65% cost savings over an equivalent US hire, with the gap widening rather than narrowing at the senior and architect level, since that’s where US market scarcity drives rates up the most.
| Role & Seniority |
India (USD/hr) |
US (USD/hr) |
| Kubernetes Setup Engineer |
$20 – $40 |
$60 – $120 |
| Kubernetes Developer (CKAD) |
$25 – $50 |
$75 – $150 |
| Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) |
$35 – $65 |
$95 – $160 |
| Kubernetes Architect / Lead |
$70 – $115 |
$160 – $260 |
We quote in INR for Indian entities and USD for US and UAE clients, scoped after understanding your actual infrastructure and whether you need a single specialist or a coordinated team.
Industries We’ve Placed Kubernetes Talent For
Fintech and BFSI (compliance-aware cluster architecture and audit logging), SaaS and B2B product companies (multi-tenant architecture and scaling), e-commerce (traffic-spike autoscaling), AI and ML product companies (GPU scheduling and inference scaling), and media and content platforms running high-traffic, container-based infrastructure.
What Separates a Good Kubernetes Hire From a Risky One
Certification without production experience. A CKAD or CKA credential demonstrates verified knowledge, but we vet for actual production incident experience alongside the certification, since a cluster that’s only ever been managed in a training environment behaves differently under real traffic and real failure conditions.
Architects who’ve only ever greenfielded, never inherited. Designing a cluster from a blank slate is a meaningfully different skill from taking over and stabilizing an existing, already-messy production environment. We assess for both, since most real-world engagements involve at least some of the latter.
Security treated as a separate concern from the architecture. RBAC, network policy, and secrets management bolted on after the cluster design is finalized consistently produce weaker security posture than when they’re part of the initial architecture conversation. We build security review into cluster design from the start, not as a phase-two audit.
No cost accountability. Kubernetes clusters are notoriously easy to over-provision quietly. We hold our engineers accountable for resource efficiency and cost visibility as a standard part of cluster ownership, not an optional FinOps add-on someone else handles later.
Why Cybertize Technologies
Kubernetes expertise sits inside a broader, proven DevOps practice. We run a dedicated DevOps consulting practice covering CI/CD, cloud architecture, and SRE, which means the Kubernetes specialists we place aren’t operating in isolation, they’re backed by a team that understands the full infrastructure picture around the cluster.
Certified and production-tested. Our Kubernetes engineers hold CKA and CKAD certifications and have worked on production clusters carrying real traffic, not just lab environments and tutorials.
We match the role to the actual need. We won’t place a generalist “DevOps engineer” against a role that genuinely needs a specialized Kubernetes architect, or the reverse, which is a common, expensive mismatch we’re specifically built to avoid.
Presence across India, the US, and UAE. With teams operating out of Delhi, Mumbai, Gujarat, Indore, and Bangalore, alongside a US presence, we support overlapping working hours for Indian and North American clients, and UAE-based engagements benefit from that same cross-market experience.
Transparent, scoped pricing. We quote based on the actual role and seniority required after understanding your infrastructure, not a flat day rate that doesn’t reflect whether you need a setup engineer or an architect.
